@Somsi: Thanks!

@Jocelyn: Thank you so much! I really appreciate it and I hope to see you around here often!

@Eron: I’ll have to keep my eye out for that because it sounds really handy!

@Beth: Thank you!

@Joel: I think that would be a great way to go about it – I like using shortening in my cookies, too.

Hey Sydney, I just came across your blog recently and absolutely love it. You have such a variety in your cooking, and you make it look feasible! It’s really an inspiration I made these cookies a few days ago and everyone who tried one has been asking me to make them again and again! Amazing!! -Jocelyn

Lovely photos — mouthwatering! I like how the chocolate disks melt in the cookies. I also like how an ice cream scoop makes the perfect sized cookies — in addition to the ice cream scoop, a friend recently gave me a cookie scoop that fits 2 Tablespoons of dough and has a flexible silicon well so you can push the cookie dough out from the bottom once you’ve scooped… it works great : )

Just made these today. Ingredient proportions were exact, but I portioned the dough while still room temperature, cooled the dough balls for a few hours, and baked them off while still cold. They turned out great and had a very good appearance with no over-spreading (I baked on parchment instead of a greased sheet).

I said in a previous post that I enjoy a denser, chewier cookie, so I want to replace some of the butter with vegetable shortening. I think I can get the texture I want if I use 1/2 cup of shortening and 3/4 cup of butter. Any thoughts on this?

Survivors I Workshop

Information regarding the childhood trauma Survivors I workshop program.

Survivorsis an essential element of The Meadows’ inpatient treatment program. It is offered year-round as a weeklong workshop, open to all interested individuals.

This workshop delves into childhood trauma that impacts current day life. Based on Senior Fellow Pia Mellody’s pioneering work in her book, Facing Codependence , Survivors I is our signature workshop. It is an essential component of The Meadows inpatient treatment program and is also open to interested individuals as a stand-alone workshop. In a safe supportive environment, Survivors I explores the origins that fuel self-defeating behaviors such as addictions, trauma, mood disorders, and troubling relationships. Childhood wounding up to age 18 is approached with compassion and skills are taught in order to re-parent yourself. The primary focus of this workshop is processing and releasing the negative messages and emotions that were rooted in painful experiences from the past allowing the freedom to embody your authentic self. We do this in three phases:

Facing Codependence

Informational Phase: Through psycho-education, participants are introduced to the concept of developmental immaturity and the impact of the profound relationship between the child and the major caregivers. As perceived through the eyes of the child, the wounding is highlighted, without placing blame on parents. Participants discover the impact their childhood experiences have had on their self-esteem, boundary system, level of dependency, and ability to be moderate in all things.

Informational Phase:

Debriefing Phase: Participants explore the less-than-nurturing and/or abusive recollected childhood experiences with a focus on the accompanying associated feelings and imprinted self-defeating patterns.

Debriefing Phase:

Experiential Phase: Participants re-examine their childhood relationships in a safe and nurturing environment through the application of Pia Mellody’s techniques for addressing childhood relational trauma. This phase typically serves to release painful emotions, with participants beginning the process of reparenting the parts of themselves that have been shamed, neglected or abandoned and reclaiming their rights and personal power.

Experiential Phase:
